The Trillium Are Blooming!

The Trillium Are Blooming!

The great white trillium (Trillium grandiflorum) are once again blanketing the hillsides of northern Michigan, a sure sign that spring has finally arrived! The scientific name, Trillium, can be broken down into two Latin parts with "tri" referring to three petals and "llium" describing the funnel-shaped flower. Grandiflorum is from the Latin grandis which means great, large and Flora, goddess of flowers. (fs.usda.gov) These beautiful wildflowers were photographed on land protected by the Little Traverse Conservancy.
