The great white trillium (Trillium grandiflorum) are once again blanketing the hillsides of northern Michigan, a sure sign that spring has finally arrived! The scientific name, Trillium, can be broken down into two Latin parts with "tri" referring to three petals and "llium" describing the funnel-shaped flower. Grandiflorum is from the Latin grandis which means great, large and Flora, goddess of flowers.
