Dreaming of Spring

Dreaming of Spring

Spring has officially arrived, but Northern Michigan remains covered in several feet of snow. Remnants of an epic March storm that dropped 36+ inches in just a few days! Our beautiful snowy winter seems in no hurry to leave so today, the fairies and I brought spring to Three Pines Studio and Gallery.

With the fairies' help, I have been creating snowdrops, marsh marigolds, and trillium from artisan dyed roving and wool scraps; a wren among the pussy willows, and a morel in hope that spring will soon be here. Look closely and you may even spy a few gnomes wearing morel caps as they play along the forest floor. I have loved incorporating vintage spools for the bases of these new sculptures, as well as labels with the common and scientific names. Forever an artist and a biologist.

Many new fairies arrived at the studio and there are now one of a kind fairies that are ready to fly with online orders! I am so excited to be creating with some truly delightful fabrics from the United States, Germany, France, Italy and Japan. From whimsical to realistic designs, look for new wildflowers, fairies, gnomes, owls, tulips, gerbils, hedgehogs, bunnies, fox, geese and more, and beautiful floral designs in the wings that inspired the fairies. I discovered a Japanese embroidery floss, Cosmo, while visiting Moonspun Wool in Marquette, Michigan. Its beautiful silky sheen has allowed me to create some lovely new braids for the fairies. I've loved creating some new silk skirts. Ukrainian artist, Marina Ilytska, has sent many beautiful crowns, clovers, and ribbon for the fairies. I am so grateful for our continued collaborations!

I have enjoyed sanding, painting and sealing a set of non-toxic wooden eggs with bee's wax. They are the perfect size to tuck a baby butterfly fairy inside as a surprise.

Registration will soon be open for this summer's fairy parties at Three Pines Studio! This year's dates will be all five Fridays in July and the first Friday in August for those wishing to "save the date". We look forward to these special parties every year!

Wishing you a magical and happy spring! I hope you're having fun creating, too!
