A New Friend

A New Friend

Every now and then I am asked, "Have you ever made a ....?"

Most recently, "Have you ever made a chipmunk?"

This little one was inspired by a special chipmunk friend named George. We love the chipmunks at our home, too, so I was pleased to give it a go. I began by studying several photos from different angles so that I could capture both the shape of the body, as well as its coloration. Blending wools allows forthe ability to color match and is a bit like mixing paints. I often use iridescent glass beads for eyes because I love how light is reflected giving the appearance of highlights. Careful shading around the eye and in the stripes were important touches to bringing this little one to life. After countless pokes with a sharp needle, transforming the wool fibers to felt, this sweet little chipmunk was "born". I have since made two more and love this new addition to Fairy Land at Three Pines. Thank you, Christine and George for the nudge!

As our snow banks grow smaller in Northern Michigan, it won't be long before our sweet chipmunks wake from their winter's naps. Let their playful antics begin!

Wishing you joyful moments in the weeks ahead!

Kim
